Writing Peer Assessment
writingaccuracycommunicationpracticepairslow prep15-20 min
Students evaluate and improve each other's writing through structured feedback.
Procedure
- Pair students; give clear assessment criteria or guiding questions.
- Students exchange writing and read carefully.
- Each reader provides written feedback (positive points + suggestions).
- Writers review feedback, ask clarifying questions, and plan revisions.
Tips
- Use a positive-constructive-positive sandwich structure to build a safe feedback culture.
- Give specific prompts (e.g. "Is the topic sentence clear?") to prevent vague comments.
- Train students on what useful feedback looks like before the first session.
