One student describes a route on a map; the other draws it on their blank version.

Procedure

  1. Give Student A a map with a marked route.
  2. Give Student B the same map without the route.
  3. A describes the route; B draws it.
  4. B can ask clarification questions.
  5. Compare maps.

Tips

  • Add slight differences between the two maps (e.g., a landmark missing on one) for extra negotiation.
  • Widely used in SLA research for measuring interaction quality.
