Students agree/disagree with statements before reading, then revisit after.
Procedure
- Create 5-8 statements related to the reading text (mix true, false, debatable).
- Before reading: students mark agree/disagree individually.
- Discuss choices with a partner.
- Read the text.
- Revisit statements — change any answers based on what they read, and discuss what changed.
Tips
- Include at least 2 statements that challenge common assumptions — this creates genuine motivation to read carefully.
