Reverse Hot Seat

speakingcommunicationreviewsmall-groupnone prep10-15 min

The student in the hot seat asks yes/no questions; the audience gives clues.

Procedure

  1. A student sits facing the class, back to the board.
  2. Teacher writes a word on the board.
  3. The hot-seat student asks yes/no questions to figure out the word (e.g. "Is it alive?" "Can you eat it?").
  4. Audience answers only yes or no. Rotate after each round.

Tips

  • Set a question limit (e.g. 20 questions) to keep rounds moving.
  • Great for practising question formation, especially at lower levels.
