Before reading, students list what they Know and Want to know; after, what they Learned.
Procedure
- Draw a three-column chart: K (Know), W (Want to know), L (Learned).
- Students brainstorm and fill K column individually, then share.
- Students generate questions for W column.
- Read the text.
- Complete the L column and compare with K and W.
Tips
- The W column sets a genuine reading purpose — students read to answer their OWN questions.
- Works for listening tasks too.
