Two Truths and a Lie
speakingcommunicationwarmerwhole-classnone prep10-15 minTBLT
Students present three statements about themselves — two true, one false — and partners guess the lie.
Procedure
- Each student writes 3 statements about themselves (2 true, 1 false).
- In pairs, one student reads their statements aloud.
- The partner asks follow-up questions to probe for details.
- The partner guesses which statement is the lie; truth is revealed.
- Switch roles and repeat.
Tips
- Encourage students to make the lie plausible and the truths surprising.
- The questioning phase is where the real speaking practice happens — don't rush it.
- For themed rounds, restrict statements to a topic (travel, food, hobbies).
