Vocabulary Notebooks

Students maintain structured entries for new words: definition, translation, example, collocations.

Procedure

  1. Provide a template: word, part of speech, definition, L1 translation, example sentence (self-generated), common collocations, word family.
  2. Students add 3-5 new words per lesson.
  3. Dedicate 5 minutes per class for review (cover definitions, test recall).
  4. Periodically, students quiz each other from their notebooks.

Tips

  • The self-generated example sentence is the most important field — it requires deep processing.
  • Review is more important than recording.
