Let's Have a Drink

Students practise making suggestions with "Let's..." by responding in unison and miming the action, then taking turns creating new suggestions.
Procedure
- Invite students to stand up, preferably with a little space to move.
- Give a continuation for Let's... (e.g., Let's have a drink). Students respond in unison: Yes, let's have a drink, then all mime the action.
- Nominate a student to think of a different continuation. The process continues until each student has had at least one turn.
Tips
- At higher levels, use a greater range of suggestion language: Why don't we..., It'd be a good idea to..., I think we should..., How about..., etc.
- Combining language with physical actions makes the language more easily internalised and recalled — research supports this for both performers and observers.
- Works well as an energiser or end-of-lesson cooler.
