Two-Minute Conversations

Pairs talk non-stop on a given topic for exactly two minutes.

Procedure

1. Give pairs a conversation topic.
2. Start a 2-minute timer — both students must keep talking.
3. Enforce the "no silence longer than 5 seconds" rule.
4. When time is up, assign a new topic or rotate partners.
5. After 3-4 rounds, briefly share interesting language heard.

Tips

• Model a round with a strong student first so expectations are clear.
• Tell students grammar mistakes are fine — fluency is the goal.
• Note useful language while monitoring for a short post-activity focus.
