Students read the beginning of a text and create a coherent ending.

Procedure

  1. Give students only the first half of a story or text.
  2. Students write (or discuss orally) how they think it continues.
  3. Pairs compare their endings.
  4. Read the original ending.
  5. Discuss: whose ending was most plausible? Most creative?

Tips

  • Works for narratives, arguments, and even news reports.
  • The comparison with the original sparks genuine discussion about reasoning and expectations.
