readingspeakingfluencypracticepairslow prep5-10 min

Student reads a phrase silently, looks away, then says it aloud from memory.

Procedure

  1. Give students a short text (or use one from class).
  2. Student reads one phrase or sentence silently.
  3. Looks up (away from text) and says it aloud to a partner.
  4. Partner checks accuracy against the text.
  5. Progress to longer chunks as confidence builds.

Tips

  • Start with 5-7 word chunks.
  • Builds the bridge between reading and speaking fluency.
  • Works well as a 5-minute warm-up.
