Teacher reads statements; students hold up red (disagree) or green (agree) cards and explain.
Procedure
- Give each student a red card and a green card (or red/green paper).
- Teacher reads a statement (e.g. "Homework is useful").
- Students hold up green (agree) or red (disagree).
- Teacher picks students from each side to explain their choice.
- Repeat with new statements.
Tips
- Use statements related to lesson content to double as a lead-in activity.
- Controversial but light-hearted statements generate the best discussion.
- Works well as a quick opinion warm-up before a writing or speaking task.
