Mock Trial

Students conduct a trial with assigned roles: judge, lawyers, witnesses, jury.

Procedure

1. Present a case (fictional or based on a text).
2. Assign roles: judge, prosecution, defence, witnesses, jury.
3. Preparation time: lawyers prepare arguments and questions; witnesses prepare testimony.
4. Run the trial: opening statements → witness examination → cross-examination → closing arguments.
5. Jury deliberates and delivers a verdict.
6. Debrief: discuss language used and persuasion strategies.

Tips

• Provide role cards with key information and useful language.
• The preparation phase is as valuable as the trial itself.
