Reciprocal Teaching

Students take turns leading discussion using four strategies: predict, clarify, question, summarise.
Procedure
- Teacher models the four strategies with a text passage.
- Divide text into sections.
- Assign one student as "teacher" for each section.
- The student-teacher leads the group through: Predict (what comes next?) → Read → Clarify (confusing parts) → Question (ask the group) → Summarise.
- Rotate the teacher role for the next section.
Tips
- Use a simple prompt card listing the four strategies until students internalise them.
- Gradually release responsibility from teacher to students over several sessions.
