Balloon Debate

speakingcommunicationmainwhole-classlow prep20-30 minTBLT

Students argue in character why they should stay in a sinking hot-air balloon; class votes who goes.

Procedure

  1. Assign each student a famous person, profession, or concept.
  2. Set the scene: all are in a sinking balloon — one must go each round.
  3. Each student gives a 1-2 minute persuasive speech.
  4. Class votes on who to remove.
  5. Repeat until one remains.

Tips

  • Give 5 minutes prep time for speeches.
  • Allow the audience to ask one question per speaker before voting.
