Conscience Alley

readingspeakingcommunicationfluencymainwhole-classlow prep15-20 minTBLT

Students form two lines and whisper arguments for/against as a character walks between them.

Procedure

  1. After reading a text, identify a character facing a dilemma.
  2. Class forms two facing lines — one side argues FOR a decision, the other AGAINST.
  3. One student walks slowly down the "alley" as the character.
  4. Each student whispers their argument as the character passes.
  5. At the end, the character announces their decision and explains why.

Tips

  • Coach students to make their arguments personal: "Think about your family..." not just logical.
  • The whispered format creates an intense, focused atmosphere.
