Grammar Auction

grammaraccuracyreviewsmall-groupmedium prep20-30 min

Groups bid on sentences — some correct, some with errors. Highest correct-sentence total wins.

Procedure

  1. Prepare 15-20 sentences: mix of correct and incorrect (targeting specific grammar points).
  2. Give each group play money (e.g., $1000).
  3. Display sentences one at a time.
  4. Groups decide if it's correct and bid accordingly.
  5. Reveal the answer — groups who bid on correct sentences keep them; money spent on incorrect sentences is lost.
  6. Group with the highest value of correct sentences wins.

Tips

  • Include some tricky correct sentences to make groups second-guess.
  • The pre-bid group discussion is where the real grammar learning happens.
