Vocabulary Story

readingwritingvocabularyaccuracycommunicationpracticeindividuallow prep15-20 min

Students select key words from a text and write a completely new story using them.

Procedure

  1. After reading a text, students choose 8-10 key vocabulary items.
  2. Write a short, original story or paragraph using all chosen words.
  3. The story must make sense — no random word-stuffing.
  4. Pairs read each other's stories and check all words are used naturally.
  5. Vote on the most creative story.

Tips

  • The creative constraint forces deep processing of word meaning and usage — far more effective than copying definitions.
