Drawing My Natural World
speakingreadingaccuracypracticegroupslow prep15-20 min
In groups, one student reads a sentence, draws it without speaking, and teammates race to guess the exact sentence.
Procedure
- Prepare sentences sharing a common structure and theme (e.g., prepositions + present continuous + nature vocabulary). Write each on a separate card.
- Divide the class into groups of three.
- One child from each group comes to the front and reads the same sentence card.
- They return to their groups and, without speaking, draw the information.
- The first group to correctly say the full sentence wins a point.
- Rotate so the next person in each group reads the next sentence.
- Continue until all group members have had a turn.
Example Sentences
- He/She is flying over a mountain.
- He/She is jumping in a river.
- He/She is riding around an island on a bike.
- He/She is running on a beach.
- He/She is swimming under the sea.
- He/She is swimming across a lake.
- He/She is walking behind a waterfall.
- He/She is sitting on a mountain.
Tips
- Versatile: construct sentences to match whatever vocabulary/grammar is currently being covered.
- After the game, elicit the sentences back from students (drawings prompt memory) and write them on the board for language review.
- Works well with teens too — not just young learners.
