Live Listening
listeningspeakingcommunicationmainwhole-classlow prep10-20 min
Teacher or guest speaks live to the class; students can signal when they don't understand.
Procedure
- Teacher (or invited guest) speaks about a topic for 3-5 minutes.
- Students listen and take notes.
- Students can raise a hand to signal confusion — speaker pauses and rephrases.
- After the talk, students ask follow-up questions.
- Students summarise what they heard in pairs.
Tips
- Far more natural than recordings — speakers adjust pace, repeat, and rephrase.
- Use a simple hand signal (not interruption) so the speaker can finish their thought first.
