Intensive Reading

Teacher and class work through a short text together, focusing on language features.

Procedure

  1. Select a short text (200-500 words) slightly above students' level.
  2. Pre-teach 3-5 key vocabulary items.
  3. Students read silently, then teacher reads aloud.
  4. Work through the text together: discuss meaning, highlight grammar patterns, examine vocabulary in context, analyse text structure.
  5. Follow up with comprehension and language-focused tasks.

Tips

  • Use texts that recycle vocabulary from previous lessons.
  • One intensive reading text per week is sufficient — pair with extensive reading for balance.
